ABI/INFORM Global

ABI/INFORM has been a premier source of business and corporate information for more than 30 years, containing content from thousands of journals that help researchers track business conditions, trends, management techniques, and corporate strategies. Coverage for this database begins in 1971.

Business & Company Resource Center

The Business & Company Resource Center provides content in the following areas: Periodical and news articles; Company financials and earning estimates; Investment reports; Company histories; Brands and product information; Industry and company rankings; Market Share data; Industry Overviews; and HR Law Case Digests.

Business Newsbank Guide

Business NewsBank includes full-text news articles from over 500 newspaper, newswire, and business journal sources from 1993-present. Regional business sources included in Business NewsBank are Grand Rapids Journal, Detroit Free Press, and Crain’s Detroit Business.

EconLit

International in scope, EconLit provides over 440,000 citations for economics-related articles, dissertations, and books published from 1969 to the present.

General BusinessFile

Selected full-text is available in General BusinessFile from 1980-present for the following material types: newspaper and journal articles, trade publication articles, and broker research reports. Many aspects of business are covered including advertising, industry analysis, management, and marketing.

General Onefile Guide

A very large full-text database with over 50 million articles covering a myriad of subjects, General OneFile indexes both newspapers and journals. Coverage is from 1980 to present. A few journals, especially older dates, give only selective full-text.

Hospitality & Tourism Index

Hospitality & Tourism Index is a comprehensive bibliographic database covering scholarly research and industry news relating to all areas of hospitality and tourism. The collection contains more than 480,000 records from 500 titles, with coverage going back to the mid 1960s.

LegalTrac

LegalTrac includes citations, and selected full-text, from major law reviews, law journals, specialty law and bar association journals, and legal newspapers. Also included are articles on Federal and State Cases, Laws and Regulations, Legal Practice, and Taxation. Coverage is from 1980-present.

Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe Guide

Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe provides access to full-text legal, business, and newspaper articles. The Legal section of Academic Universe contains Federal and State Case Law, the Federal Code, Federal Regulations, and full-text articles from major law review journals. The Business section contains SEC Filings and Reports, Company information, and full-text business articles from newspapers and journals.

Management & Organization Studies (Sage Full-Text)

This database includes the full text of 38 journals published by SAGE and participating societies, some journals going back 57 years, encompassing over 10,000 articles.

MediaFinder

MediaFinder provides access to the largest and most current database of media rates and information, regardless of media type. Included products are print, broadcast, newspaper, direct marketing, and online.

Mergent Online Guide

Mergent Online is the online equivalent of the print Moody’s/Mergent manuals. Use this database to find information on a company including history, officers, bond ratings, and detailed financial information. Companies can even be compared to similar companies based upon a wide range of financial information.

MRI Plus Guide

MRI Plus is a library of key magazine planning data resources providing a link between the planner and publisher. The Mediamark reporter which is also available, provides access to summary tables of key audience and product usage data from a national probability sample of 27,000 households.

National Trade Data Bank

National Trade Database provides a wealth of data relating to trade and trade services. The database is a good source of information on countries as well.

RIA Checkpoint

RIA Checkpoint is a web-based tax and accounting research tool that is anchored by established and trusted products from RIA and WG&L. Checkpoint provides the content, tools, and information to search a myriad of tax and accounting information sources formerly only available in print form.

Security Management Practices

Security Management Practices provides a dozen new reports every month covering topics like deploying network security appliances, using biometric technologies for network and physical security, managing organizational risk, planning for disruptions, securing the enterprise network and much more.

Standard & Poor’s NetAdvantage Guide

Net Advantage gives easy access to comprehensive data on companies, executives, industries, stocks, bonds and mutual funds--and solid investment advice from top analysts. The information contained in this database is provided by Standard & Poor’s the world’s most trusted provider of business, financial and investment information.

State of the Nation Guide

State of the Nation is a subset of the National Trade Data Bank and provides full-text for recent news and statistics relating to leading economic indicators.

Westlaw Campus Guide

Westlaw contains an extensive, full-text archive of federal and state case law. Additionally there are articles from law review journals and legal encyclopedias. The News and Information section contains full-text articles from such sources as newspapers, magazines, and television transcripts.

Wilson Business

Wilson Business provides complete and accurate indexing and abstracting of leading business magazines. Fifty-to-150 word abstracts written by subject experts are included for each article. Citations (but not abstracts) are provided for book reviews. Links to many full-text articles are found in Wilson Business citations.

CollegeSource

College Source offers over 11,700 college catalogs in complete cover-to-cover original page format including 2-year, 4-year, graduate, and professional schools.

Education Abstracts Guide

Education Abstracts indexes over 550 journal titles which focus on education. Coverage extends from pre-school through higher education and includes such topics as educational technology, literacy, prayer in public schools, and vocational education. Citations are provided from 1983 to the present with abstracts available from 1994.

Education (Sage Full-Text)

Education (Sage Full-Text) is a collection of over 12,700 full-text articles in the education field, gathered from 33 journals. Backfiles go back as far as 41 years.

Educator's Reference Complete

This mostly full-text database, covers more than 1100 journals significant to the field of education. All educational levels and specialties are included.

ERIC

ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) indexes and abstracts 780 journals (EJ Accession Number) and ERIC documents (ED Accession Number) covering education and related fields such as counseling, psychology, and social sciences from 1966-present. Most ERIC documents are available on microfiche in the library. Full-text for many recent ERIC Documents is available through the database (click on the "Access ERIC" full-text link).

Focus II (FSU students call 591-2685 for login information)

Focus II provides a wide range of services and information relating to career and educational planning including interest assessment, fact sheets on specific occupations, and a resume tutorial. Access to Focus II is made available through the FSU Career Services office. Ferris students please call 591-2685 for login information.

LearnATest

Provided by the LearningExpressLibrary, LearnATest offers online practice tests for such major exams as GRE, LSAT, MCAT, GED, Advanced Placement, the U. S. Citizenship Test, and many more. Free registration is required.

O*NET (Occupational Online Network)

O*NET provides information on hundreds of career paths, including necessary skill sets and required tasks. Wages and employment trends are also available at the national or state level.

PsycINFO and PsycArticles Guide

PsycINFO is the most comprehensive indexing source for psychology and associated fields, containing "citations and summaries of journal articles, book chapters, books and technical reports, as well as citations to dissertations . . . Journal coverage, spanning 1872-present, includes international material selected from more than 1,300 periodicals written in over 25 languages." Selected full-text is available via PsycArticles.

Academic OneFile Guide

A large database with broad subject coverage, containing many full-text resources. Resources include: articles from over 8,000 academic titles in numerous disciplines, magazine articles, information from reference books including subject-area encyclopedias, news from certain national and international newspapers and newsletters, as well as selected transcripts from television and radio broadcasts from NPR, CNN, & CBC, plus selected podcasts from these highly-regarded news sources!

American Periodicals Series: 1740-1900

This database offers full-text, digitized pages from over 1,000 periodical titles published in the United States. A work-in-progress, American Periodical Series currently includes material through the early twentieth century.

Biography Index

Biography Index contains citations to English-language articles and books which contain biographical information on persons of all fields and nationalities. Coverage is 1984 to present. Sources indexed include autobiographies, biographies, critical studies, interviews, and obituaries.

Biography Reference Bank

Biography Reference Bank includes full-text biographical information on over 500,000 people from antiquity to the present. Thousands of images and article citations are available as well. Biographies are searchable in several ways including by name, profession, gender, race/ethnicity and place of origin.

Emerald Journals

This database provides access to over 42,000 articles originally appearing in 100 journals published by Emerald Group Publishing Limited. Articles are from 1994-present and are from the fields of management, HRM, marketing, library science, mechanical engineering, and electronic and electrical engineering.

Facts on File

Facts.com brings together complete content from the Facts On File World News Digest since 1940 and selected content from several other core reference databases to provide information about events, issues, statistics, and people of the last 60+ years. The Issues & Controversies section delivers balanced discussions of both sides of controversial issues.

FirstSearch

FirstSearch provides access to a multitude of indexing and abstracting databases, as well as WorldCat, which shows holdings of major international and most U.S libraries. Full-text periodicals databases include WilsonSelectPlus, which includes 1,110 titles on business, technology, science, current affairs, art, music, literature, and social sciences. Other full-text sources include the World Almanac.

Reader's Guide Abstracts

Reader’s Guide Abstracts indexes articles published in popular magazines and includes citations and abstracts for more than 300 magazine titles from 1983-present. Article subjects include consumer affairs, current events, fine arts, news, and sports. More than 1.1 million records are contained within the database.

Reader's Guide Retrospective

Reader’s Guide Retrospective contains article citations from popular, general interest magazines from 1890-1982. Subjects covered include archeology, astronomy, automobiles, business, education, environment, history, journalism, literature, medicine, music, news, politics, popular culture, religion, science, sports, and technology.

ScienceDirect

ScienceDirect is an online collection of citations, with selected full-text, from scholarly, scientific and technical journals, updated monthly, covering such topics as Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Anthropology, Archaeology, Physics, Psychology, and Business. Content is 1995-present and may be searched by subject or by journal title.

WilsonSelect Plus Guide

This completely full-text database includes articles from a wide range of subject fields including science, humanities, education and business. Coverage is from 1994 to the present.

Access Pharmacy

Access Pharmacy contains articles from leading textbooks and reference sources relating to all aspects of pharmacy. Browsing by core curriculum topic and organ system is available.

CINAHL Guide

The Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL) provides comprehensive indexing of the professional literature in nursing, allied health disciplines, biomedicine, and alternative medicine from 1982 to present. Selective full-text is available for research instruments, state nursing journal articles, and critical paths.

Cochrane Library

The library is a collection of seven unique evidence-based databases enabling you to make informed decisions about health care: The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, The Cochrane Database of Methodology Reviews, The Cochrane Controlled Trials Register, The Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effects, The NHS Economic Evaluation Database, The Health Technology Assessment Database, and The Cochrane Methodology Register.

Drug Facts & Comparisons

The online version of Drug Facts and Comparisons, this database is a comprehensive drug information compendium which contains more than 22,000 Rx and almost 6,000 OTC drugs grouped by therapeutic category for ease of comparison. Also included is orphan and investigational drug information. This database is updated periodically throughout the month, the date for update appears on the "What’s New" section of the home page.

Electronic Orange Book

Also known as Approved Drug Products with Therapeutic Equivalence Evaluations, this resource provides timely information on generic drug approvals to help determine possible substitutes for medications. Search by proprietary name or active ingredient name to find more information on approved products containing the same active ingredient. Drug patent searching is also available through the Electronic Orange Book.

Health and Wellness Resource Center Guide

Health & Wellness Resource Center provides students and consumers with a one-stop source for health research. Search results are categorized by document category, allowing easy access to relevant information. Some of the categories are Medical Encyclopedia, Drug and Herb Finder, Health News and Alternative Health Encyclopedia.

Health Reference Center

This database provides access to a wide range of articles on health matters such as Medicine, Nutrition, Diseases, Public Health, Occupational Health and Safety, Alcohol and Drug abuse, HMOs, Prescription Drugs, etc. Full-text is available for many articles. Coverage is from 1980 to present.

Health Sciences (Sage Full-Text)

A full-text collection of articles, Health Sciences contains articles originally published by Sage in 26 journal titles. Over 7000 articles cover such areas as autisim, gerontology, nursing theory and research, community / public health, health communication, health psychology.

History of Science, Technology & Medicine

Nearly 300,000 citations selected from over 9500 international sources cover the historical impact of science, technology, and medicine from prehistory to the present. Types of souces indexed included journal articles, books, dissertations, and conference proceedings.

IDIS (Please call 591-3602 for password) Guide

The Iowa Drug Information Service/Web (IDIS/Web) is a database of citations to articles about drugs and drug therapy in humans taken from over 200 leading medical and pharmaceutical journals. Full-text is available for some articles from 1997 to the current month.

International Pharmaceutical Abstracts Guide

International Pharmaceutical Abstracts (IPA) database provides summaries of articles published in more than 750 journals. Major areas of coverage include: drug reactions, toxicity, investigational drugs, drug evaluations, drug interactions, drug stability, pharmaceutics, pharmacology, preliminary drug testing, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacognosy, and methodology. Coverage is from 1970 to present.

Micromedex provides comprehensive drug, acute care, and toxicology information, derived from a variety of sources, to support clinical care decisions.

Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database

Recognized as the premier source for evidence-based information on natural medicines, the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database allows for product searches, displaying a listing of brand name product ingredients and providing abstracts to articles and monographs on particular ingredients.

PubMed Guide

PubMed, a service of the National Library of Medicine, includes over 15 million citations for biomedical articles back to the 1950s. These citations are from MEDLINE and additional life science journals. PubMed includes links to many sites providing full text articles and other related resources.

ScienceDirect

ScienceDirect is an online collection of citations, with selected full-text, from scholarly, scientific and technical journals, updated monthly, covering such topics as Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Anthropology, Archaeology, Physics, Psychology, and Business. Content is 1995-present and may be searched by subject or by journal title.

STAT!Ref: Electronic Medical Library Guide

STAT!Ref is a full-text resource that allow users to cross-search 40 up-to-date medical, nursing and drug reference books and illustrations. Titles in stat!REF include Stedman’s Medical Dictionary, DSM-IV-TR: Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, and the Dictionary of Medical Acronyms and Abbreviations.

TOXNET

The Toxicology Data Network (TOXNET) is a cluster of databases covering toxicology, hazardous chemicals, environmental health, and toxic releases. Here is a link to descriptions of the individual databases.

Visionet Guide

Visionet is a database of journal citations produced by the Southern College of Optometry. It is the only existing comprehensive index of optometric literature in the world. It also includes vision science articles from general medical journals and ophthamology journals.

Alternative Press Index

This database indexes over 300 alternative magazines and newspapers. Index coverage begins in 1991. Major topics include feminism, ecology, indigenous peoples, and socialism.

America: History and Life Guide

Covering the period prehistory-present, America: History and Life contains citations from over 1,700 publications on all aspects of American History. Articles published since 1964 are included. Over 16,000 citations are added each year.

American Periodicals Series: 1740-1900

Art Abstracts

Citation analysis (identifying which articles have cited a particular article) for nearly 3 million articles published in leading humanities journals since 1980 is provided in the Arts and Humanities Citation Index.

CAMIO (Catalog of Art Museum Images Online) is a digital image database containing more than 100,000 artworks culled from several museums around the world. CAMIO attempts to represent "the creative output of cultures around the world, from prehistoric to contemporary times, and covering the complete range of expressive forms."

Essay and General Literature Index

Essay and General Literature Index contains citations to essays and articles published in book collections or compilations. The database contains nearly 75,000 citations from 1985 to the present.

Ethnic Newswatch Guide

Ethnic NewsWatch provides full-text articles from over 240 ethnic press newspapers in the United States from 1990-present. Of the over 800,000 articles included in Ethnic NewsWatch, about 184,000 are in Spanish.

FMG On Demand

FMG on Demand currently offers online viewing for the film, Bauhaus: The Face of the 20th Century. If logging in from off-campus, please note that Windows Media Player will not work for viewing the film (use QuickTime instead).

The Gerritsen Collection: Women's History Online, 1543-1945 Guide

The Gerritsen Collection is an internationally renowned resource covering women’s history, formerly available only on microfilm. The Gerritsen database contains over 2 million full-text, digitized pages spanning books, periodicals, and pamphlets from 1543-1945.

HarpWeek

This full-image collection contains scanned-in pages from 19th century editions of Harper’s Weekly. Searchable through article text and by subject, the database currently holds every issue from 1857-1889.

Historical Abstracts

Covering World History from the period 1450 to the present, Historical Abstracts contains citations for articles published since 1955. Over 22,000 citations are added each year.

History of Science, Technology & Medicine

Humanities Abstracts

JSTOR, or Journal Storage, offers full-text articles from core journals in several academic disciplines in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Coverage in JSTOR extends from the first issue of each journal and continues to 2-5 years from the most recently published issues.

Literature Resource Center (including MLA) Guide

Literature Resource Center contains biographical information for more than 115,000 authors and more than 52,0000 full or excerpted critical essays. LRC also provides full-text articles extracted from over 250 academic literary journals as well as a portal to the MLA International Bibliography.

MLA International Bibliography

The MLA (Modern Language Association) database is the main source for citations relating to literature, linguistics, and folklore. MLA includes over 1.5 million citations to articles, books, book chapters, dissertations, and bibliographies extending back to 1926.

NoveList

NoveList contains reviews and summaries for more than 135,000 fiction titles. Titles covered range from picture books to novels.

Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center

The Opposing Viewpoints Resource Center contains full-text book chapters and articles covering all sides of contemporary controversial issues (abortion, animal rights, capital punishment, drug abuse, gun control, terrorism, etc.).

Oxford Dictionary of National Biography

The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography contains 50,000 biographical sketches of persons, deceased, associated with the British Isles "who have left a mark for any reason, good, bad, or bizarre." An update of the renowned Dictionary of National Biography, the ODNB possesses the same lively and witty writing style that distinguished the original.

Philosopher's Index

The Philosopher’s Index Database provides abstracts covering research in virtually all of the philosophical disciplines, including aesthetics, metaphysics, philosophy of language, and political philosophy. Coverage is from 1940 to the present, and includes peer-reviewed literature from articles and monographs. The collection consists of approximately 550 journals from forty some-odd countries.

Project Muse

Project Muse offers full-text articles from over 250 journals, emcompassing the social sciences, humanities, and the arts. Full-text coverage for each journal varies but usually starts in the mid- to late- 1990s.

AncestryPlus (Not available off campus)

With over 1.2 billion records, AncestryPlus is the most comprehensive online source for genealogical and local history information. Included in AncestryPlus are digitized images of the U.S. Federal Census from 1790-1930, the American Genealogical Biographical Index, Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, and much more.

Article First

ArticleFirst provides citations dating from 1990 of every item which appears on the table of contents pages of more than 1200 journal titles. ArticleFirst covers journal titles in business, humanities, medicine, science, social science, and technology.

Books in Print Plus

Books In Print Plus is the electronic version of the well-known print reference source, Books in Print. In print, out of print, and forthcoming books are searchable by various means including title, author, publisher, and publication date. Book reviews and vendor information are also available for many titles.

Book Review Digest

Book Review Digest provides citations to and excerpts from reviews of current English-langauge fiction and nonfiction books for adults and children. The database includes only those reviews that appeared within 18 months of original publication. Coverage is from 1983 - present.

Dissertation Abstracts

Dissertation Abstracts contains citations for over 1.5 million theses and dissertations completed in North America and Europe since 1861. Abstracts for dissertations are available from 1980 and for theses from 1988.

Foundation Directory

The online Foundation Directory contains information on more than 80,000 foundations, coporate giving programs, and grantmaking public charities. Also included are two separate sections holding information on 500,000 recently awarded grants and reproductions of the latest IRS 990 or 990-PF forms submitted by all of the public and private grantmaking foundations found in the directory.

GPO Monthly Catalog

The GPO (Government Printing Office) Monthly Catalog indexes all types of United States government documents, including judiciary materials; Congressional reports, hearings, debates, and records; and documents issued by executive departments (Defense, State, Labor, Office of the President, etc.). Dates covered are 1976 to present.

HeritageQuest

HeritageQuest is a large online collection of genealogical material including the U.S. Census from 1790-1930, Revolutionary War Pension Records, and the Freedman's Bank Records.

Library Literature

Library Literature provides citation indexing to more than 360 library journals, selected books, conference proceedings, library school theses, pamphlets, and book reviews. Coverage is from 1980-present.

Oxford English Dictionary

The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) correctly boasts that it "is the accepted authority on the evolution of the English language over the last millennium." The online OED contains the complete text of the 20-volume 2nd edition as well as the three-volume Additions Series and the content of quarterly updates which have added thousands of revisions and new words not found in the original print version.

Ulrich's Periodicals Directory

Ulrich’s is the online version of the respected print reference source. Containing information on 250,000 periodical titles (including academic and scholarly journals, consumer and trade magazines, newsletters, and ’zines), Ulrich’s includes such information as publication details, indexing sources, and refereed status for each title.

WorldCAT

An international library catalog, WorldCat contains more than 52 million bibliographic records describing items owned by libraries from all over the United States and around the world. Materials found in WorldCat include books, journals and magazines, musical scores, maps, and films.

Access World News

A product of NewsBank, Access World News contains the full-text of nearly 1700, mostly English-language, news sources from around the world, with coverage for most beginning in the 90s or 00s. All titles may be searched at once or specific regions, countries, or states may be searched separately by clicking on the map.

Business Newsbank Guide

Business NewsBank includes full-text news articles from over 500 newspaper, newswire, and business journal sources from 1993-present. Regional business sources included in Business NewsBank are Grand Rapids Journal, Detroit Free Press, and Crain’s Detroit Business.

Chicago Tribune (Historical) Guide
